About this place

The city where the Shroud, a linen cloth bearing the image of a crucified man, has been kept since 1578, now in the Cathedral of St John the Baptist. Radiocarbon tests in 1988 dated it to AD 1260–1390; the result has been challenged, and the cloth remains an object of devotion and debate.
