A freshwater lake, also called the Lake of Gennesaret or Sea of Tiberias, about 21 km long. Jesus called his first disciples from its fishing families, and much of the Gospel story of teaching, healing and stilling the storm is set on or around it. Herod Antipas built Tiberias on its western shore.
