The Jesus Archive
About this place

A settlement on the north-west shore of the Dead Sea, beside the caves where about 900 manuscripts, the Dead Sea Scrolls, were found between 1947 and 1956. Most scholars link the site with a Jewish sectarian community, often identified with the Essenes. The Great Isaiah Scroll from Cave 1 shows the text of Isaiah long before Jesus.
