About this place

An ancient city guarding the pass into the Jezreel Valley, the biblical Armageddon. In the Roman period a legionary camp, Legio, lay nearby. In 2005, building work at Megiddo prison exposed the mosaic floor of an early Christian prayer hall, dated by its excavators to about AD 230, with a dedication ‘to God Jesus Christ’.

    A third-century mosaic floor from a Christian prayer hall near Megiddo, found in 2005, with a Greek dedication “to God Jesus Christ”. It is among the earliest archaeological witnesses to Christian worship of Jesus as God.
