A spa city of the Lycus valley in Phrygia, near Colossae and Laodicea; Colossians mentions believers there. Papias was its bishop in the early second century and collected traditions about the Lord’s disciples. Later tradition said Philip the apostle, or Philip the evangelist, and his daughters lived and were buried here.
