The heartland of the Jewish community in Mesopotamia under Parthian and Sasanian rule, where the great rabbinic academies of Sura and Pumbedita produced the Babylonian Talmud, edited mainly in the sixth century. The coordinates mark Pumbedita, near modern Fallujah. The Talmud’s brief references to Yeshu, as in Sanhedrin 43a, were transmitted here.
